Jordan and I were very blessed to receive a tour of the Museums of Malawi, Blantyre campus, by our dear friend Aaron Maluwa, Education Officer at the Museum. Located in downtown Blantyre, the Museum building sits just down the road from the Blantyre city government offices and Malawi Polytechnic University. Take a look!
We've been in Malawi for a couple months now, moving from place to place. We have finally settled in Zomba, a medium sized Southern town surrounded by mountians. While I haven't been able to do as much photography as I would like, I still have a few images that tell the story of our adventure so far. Some of these you've already seen, but others are new.
Check out one of our FAVORITE things to do in Lilongwe: the Lilongwe Farmers Market!! Held on the last Saturday of each month from 7:00am-1:00pm, the market is the place to go to meet other expats, buy locally farmed produce, handmade crafts, and other locally sourced and produced goods! We loved our time there and we will definitely be going again once we get back to Lilongwe!
If you want to read more about our adventures traveling around Malawi, this post is for you! In it, I share a map that tracks our driving routes and I talk a bit about what it's like to travel around the country. How far is it from Lilongwe to Zomba? Is it safe to drive at night? Do the police take bribes? Find out here!
On our way back from the wedding in Hamilton, NY, we made two super fun stops! First, we had some chicken wings in Buffalo at the Anchor Bar, the original home of the buffalo chicken wing! From there we drove up to Niagara Falls State Park to see the Falls! It was totally worth it to be able to get out of the car, stretch out legs, and see something new on our roadtrip adventure!
This past weekend we had a little adventure! We took a roadtrip to Hamilton in upstate NY to celebrate the wedding of our friends Mark and Anne. We had a fun time wandering the farmers market, having lunch downtown, finding vistas, and we even had the energy to make a few stops on the way back in Buffalo and Niagara Falls!
In May, Banjo and Emily traveled to Groton, CT with Grandma Julie and Grandpa Mike to spend the week with Uncle Jason, Auntie Terinna, and cousin Thea. We also got to see a lot of my dad's family to celebrate the graduation of my cousin Jake for the Coast Guard Academy. Our family truly is our anchor--in this case literal anchors as we celebrate the careers of a Navy and a Coast Guard man!
Over Mother's Day weekend we spent a lovely day at the Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY. This is, hands down, the best aquarium I've ever seen! Great exhibits, really family/kid friendly, and lots to see and do. Plus, since it is located at Newport on the Levee, there are other food and shopping options that can pad the trip and make it a day outing. We had a delicious pizza lunch at Dewey's!!
On Mother's Day, we celebrated being anchored as a new family of three with Jordan's parents. We spent a fun-filled day in Cincinnati at Findlay Market and Washington Park, which was hosting an Asian Food Fest. Banjo tried lots of new things, including fresh pierogies and a homemade popsicle!
In February 2017, I traveled with the group Malawi Matters to the Central Region of Malawi. This was a very short trip and most of it was spent in a car, but I wanted to share some great photos from my time traveling around the beautiful countryside of Malawi!
