My First Safari: Timothy (age 7)
Last Saturday, Jordan, Ben, and I went on a mini safari at the Majete Wildlife Reserve in Chikwawa, Malawi (more on this later). We brought our friend Idana, who drove for us, and his son Timothy. It was Timothy's first safari and I gave him my iPhone so he could take pictures. The results were awesome! I loved scrolling through a day's worth of photos from the perspective of a seven year old boy. To go on safari is a bucket list item for many people, so to have the opportunity to bring Timothy and give him a camera to record his own memories was such a fun experiment!
While Jordan was frantically trying to get compelling photos of elephants, warthogs, and kudu, at one point even climbing out the window of the car and up onto the roof to get a clear shot, Timothy was taking pictures of Benja, the car, his nose, his dad, the ground, more Benja! I think in the 100s of photos Timothy took on the day (lots and lots of photo bursts), maybe less than a quarter were actually of animals, haha!! But he took pictures of the things that mattered to him and that he enjoyed: meeting a new friend (Benja) and spending the day with his dad. I know from Idana that Timothy went home and told lots of stories to his friends about the animals he saw, but if you only looked at his photos, you maybe wouldn't even never know he went on safari!!
The second I started scrolling through my phone, I knew I wanted to do a blog post just to highlight the safari from Timothy's point of view. If you want to see Jordan's awesome photos, wait for a later post; this post is going to be all pictures, and from the perspective of a seven year old boy on his first safari!! Enjoy:
Thanks for all the great safari photos, Timothy!! Until next time!!
