We've been in Malawi for a couple months now, moving from place to place. We have finally settled in Zomba, a medium sized Southern town surrounded by mountians. While I haven't been able to do as much photography as I would like, I still have a few images that tell the story of our adventure so far. Some of these you've already seen, but others are new.
Now that we are finally settled in Zomba, we can do our first blog post from Malawi! Here you can read all about the wonderful organization we've been working with for the past month: Malawi Matters. Learn about the history of the organization, they great work they do, our small role, and see some great photos!
In this week's episode of "Be Anchored", Jordan and I were thrilled to celebrate the marriage of our dear friends Mark and Anne. We took a roadtrip up to Hamilton in upstate New York and had a fabulous time with our South Bend friends celebrating the love of this wonderful couple! Take a look out this amazing outdoor wedding!
In May, Banjo and Emily traveled to Groton, CT with Grandma Julie and Grandpa Mike to spend the week with Uncle Jason, Auntie Terinna, and cousin Thea. We also got to see a lot of my dad's family to celebrate the graduation of my cousin Jake for the Coast Guard Academy. Our family truly is our anchor--in this case literal anchors as we celebrate the careers of a Navy and a Coast Guard man!
Over Mother's Day weekend we spent a lovely day at the Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY. This is, hands down, the best aquarium I've ever seen! Great exhibits, really family/kid friendly, and lots to see and do. Plus, since it is located at Newport on the Levee, there are other food and shopping options that can pad the trip and make it a day outing. We had a delicious pizza lunch at Dewey's!!
On the first Saturday in May we celebrated the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby! Our friends always host the annual Derby Party, complete with an array of quiches, summer salads, seersucker suits, bowties, fabulous hats, and mint juleps. This was Banjo's first Derby Party and he showed up in style wearing a flashy bowtie and salmon pink pants. Read more about our day!
Last month for Jordan's birthday, we drove into Chicago and spent the day at the Field Museum. What an awesome museum! We spent several hours there and still didn't feel like we saw everything. Read more about this fun, family friendly day trip adventure!
Whenever we feel like we need to get out of South Bend for a while (which is often), one of our favorite places to spend the day adventuring is St. Jospeh, Michigan. Roughly 40 minutes north of South Bend, St. Jospeh is right on the shore of Lake Michigan. It's a cute little town with a main street full of cafes, boutique shops, antique stores, and art galleries.
